At Joy Revival Design, sustainability isn’t a trend – it’s part of every decision Caroline makes.
From hand-collecting sea glass to choosing natural materials and rescuing vintage pieces, the aim is always the same: to create joyful, high-quality designs that tread lightly on the earth.

Considered Materials
Thoughtfully chosen. Carefully crafted.
Whether it’s jewellery, lampshades or upholstered pieces, Caroline sources materials with care and purpose:
Sea Glass & Pottery – naturally tumbled by the sea, collected from beaches across East Lothian and Scotland
Fabrics – a mix of vintage finds, off-cuts, and eco-friendly textiles such as wool from the Isle of Bute and vegan leather
Lampshade Linings & Frames – chosen for durability and low environmental impact
Woodwork (for boxes) – where used, Scottish hardwoods are sourced from a small timber yard in Dunfermline and hand-turned by a local craftsman
Padding – instead of foam, Caroline uses wool and cotton felt which are biodegradable and natural

By using materials that already exist – whether it’s sea glass, leftover fabric, or a vintage sewing box – she brings new life to forgotten treasures.
Inspired by Nature. Rooted in Respect.
Caroline’s work is inspired daily by the ever-changing Scottish coast, particularly the beaches of Portobello and East Lothian. Her sea glass jewellery workshops begin with slow, mindful beach walks – a reminder of the value in what others leave behind.

Vintage, Reused & Rescued
Many of the most colourful fabrics Caroline works with are vintage or second-hand – carefully selected for their quality, character and potential to be turned into something beautiful.
Wherever possible, she gives these materials a new purpose rather than letting them go to waste.
She also rescues old sewing boxes, restoring them with the same attention to quality and sustainability as her original designs.
While these are no longer her main focus, they remain part of the Joy Revival ethos: reimagining, not replacing.

All Joy Revival Design pieces are handcrafted in Caroline’s home studio in Portobello, Edinburgh. Small batch production means less waste, more intention, and a chance to put real care into each piece.
Jewellery offcuts are reused in future designs, fabric scraps become earrings, and any packaging used is chosen for its low impact on the planet.
